Drunken road rage: Florida man gets hit by his own truck
A man in Gainesville, Florida, has been arrested after a drunken road rage incident ended with him getting hit by his own car.
Joseph Carl, 48, was driving along 43rd street at around 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday when he plowed into a car that was stopped at a red light in front of him. Carl apparently didn’t notice the vehicle as he approached the intersection.
Carl got out of his truck and began banging on the driver-side window of the car he rear-ended, yelling at the woman behind the wheel. Terrified, the woman drove away.
As Carl hadn’t put the gear of his truck into “park,” the vehicle began to roll forward as the woman drove away. Carl put out his arms to stop the car, but it rolled over him anyway. Paramedics and police were called to the scene, with Carl initially refusing medical treatment.
Carol told police that he had been at Live Oak bar, where he had three beers ... and that he doesn’t drink and drive. However, when officers looked inside his truck, he found a cold, open beer and multiple empty cans, prompting Carl to change his story; he said he was only drinking as he drove home.
Carl refused a breathalizer test, but a blood alcohol level test gave him a reading of .22 — nearly three times the legal limit in Florida. Records also revealed Carl’s driver's license had been suspended in 1991. He was charged with with a DUI and DUI with property damage. Oh, and his foot and hand were broken from running himself over.
