Dinosaur poo: world's longest Jurassic poop up for auction in Beverly Hills

If you want to become the proud owner of the world's longest dinosaur poop, you might want to head out to Beverly Hills right now. Word on the street says auction house I.M. Chait is offering a lovely 40-inch long specimen today to the highest bidder. According to the I.M. Chait website, the estimated value of the fine stool specimen is between US$8,000 to US$10,000.

The coprolite - or fossilized poo - is described by the California-based auction house as having "wonderfully even, pale brown-yellow coloring and terrifically detailed texture to the heavily botryoidal surface across the whole of its immense length." Although the type of dinosaur that produced it remains unknown, the poo boasts "an eye-watering 40 inches in length overall." The feces rocks of "unprecedented size" will be sold in four sections, each with a custom-made marble case.

But be forewarned. According to New York Daily News, auctioneer Josh Chait was quoted as saying that the dung is between 5 and 40 million years old. Dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago. Is it a date mix-up, or is the auction a hoax? We'll just have to wait and see.
