China-Pakistan Corridor: Xi Jinping drops $46 billion of infrastructure aid in Pakistan

China has signed agreements with Pakistan to build a China-Pakistan Economic Corridor that consists of a network of roads and infrastructures worth of $46 billion.

The proposed China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will connect China’s western Xinjiang region with Gwadar in Pakistan through a network of roads, the BBC reported.

“Friendship with China is the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy,” Wall Street Journal quoted Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as saying. “Today, we have planned for the future.”

Coal, wind, solar and hydro energy power plants worth of some $15.5 billion will also be implemented, according to the BBC.

The power plants are expected to add 10,400 megawatts of energy to Pakistan’s national grid, which should make up the country's current electricity shortage, reported by the BBC.
