Honduras: UN Human Rights Commission to Open Office

The UN Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) will be soon be opening an office in Honduras on the heels of its evaluation of the situation in the country. Critics, however, question whether the opening of an UNHRC office at the government's request isn't just a cosmetic measure advanced for electoral purposes rather than a move that will strengthen supervision of and compliance with human rights policies. Many hope that the presence of a UN office will somewhat improve the human rights panorama even if they are not overly optimistic in this regard. Gerardo Torres reports from Tegucigalpa. teleSUR
