00:00A tortoise can be a wonderful animal and people bond really strongly with their turtles and tortoises.
00:06They really love them.
00:08Maintaining a tortoise is more about good health in terms of feeding them and housing them,
00:13but as far as daily, you know, you don't have to brush your teeth because they don't have any.
00:17A sick tortoise will, in general, have a runny nose, runny eyes, swollen eyes, and stop eating.
00:26And then you know you have a problem.
00:28Tortoises live anywhere from 25 to 100 plus years.
00:33You have to plan to have them in your will because, I mean, hardly any of us live to be 100
00:39and your tortoise is going to outlive you.
00:41It's a good thing to put in your will what will happen to your tortoise if you die.
00:46Leave a little bit extra money so that if you have to give the tortoise to a rescue that they're compensated.
00:52Some of the best things to do for your tortoise is to leave it alone.
00:56Some people actually buy shell polisher or put some kind of chemical on the shell to make it look bright and shiny,
01:03and that's the worst thing that you can do.
01:05You don't have to clean out their eyes.
01:07In the desert in Africa, they have sandstorms, so they have this stuff that comes into their eyes
01:12like white bubbly stuff that keeps them protected.
01:15You shouldn't touch any of that.
01:17Just leave the tortoise as a wild tortoise and you'll all be much happier.
