00:00 No mittens, you can't go out.
00:02 Okay, I'll pet you.
00:06 Look, I know you feel bad for the less fortunate kitties without homes,
00:11 and that's very sweet of you.
00:13 So since you're so concerned about them, let's build them a shelter.
00:17 First, intro finger dance.
00:28 We usually only do projects for our own pets,
00:31 but since there are a lot of less fortunate pets out there, we're doing a project for them.
00:35 Feral cats live in colonies outside, and while they're not domesticated,
00:41 they still need shelter from rain, snow, and cold.
00:45 And it's nice to have a place to hide.
00:48 This is a great way to help out feral cats and your community.
00:54 For this project, we're going to need a 35-gallon plastic storage tub,
00:58 a slightly smaller plastic storage bin that will fit in the bigger one,
01:01 a yardstick, a utility knife, a sheet of one-inch thick...
01:05 Hold on.
01:06 A sheet of one-inch thick rigid foam insulation board,
01:09 at least 8 feet by 2 feet, and some straw.
01:12 Yeah!
01:14 I did it.
01:15 Okay, I have my two bins.
01:18 And first, you're just going to draw and cut a 6x6 doorway on one of the short sides.
01:23 [laughs]
01:26 Now, with your utility knife, just cut it.
01:29 Ha! Done.
01:34 Now, get your smaller bin, put it inside the bigger one,
01:39 take your marker again, and trace the doorway.
01:43 Now take it out and cut this, too.
01:47 Now just pull that out.
01:52 And there you have it, your little entrance to the shelter.
01:55 Now, measure the inside of your bin and cut styrofoam for the bottom,
01:59 the three sides so you didn't cut your door in, and for the roof.
02:03 Shing!
02:09 And there you go.
02:12 And remember, they don't have to be perfect.
02:19 Okay, I have my four pieces of styrofoam, which is my insulation.
02:23 Now put the smaller bin in.
02:25 Okay, bring it in.
02:27 Gentle, gentle.
02:28 A little bit to the left.
02:30 Okay, now drop it.
02:31 Drop it!
02:32 Woo!
02:35 Bravo, everyone. Great job.
02:37 And once the smaller bin is fit snugly in the bigger one,
02:41 and it's okay if the doors don't exactly match up,
02:44 put some straw in.
02:46 It's my mistake.
02:48 And just have enough to line the bottom.
02:50 Now put the lid on the smaller bin and put the top styrofoam on.
02:55 Maybe this is an outside project.
02:59 Now get your lid, put it on, and voila!
03:04 There you have it.
03:06 It could use some decorations, but I'll let you handle that.
03:09 Oh, and I almost forgot.
03:11 It gets windy out, so you might want to put something heavy on top so it weighs it down.
03:15 Now just put it outside, put a bowl of water in it and some catnip,
03:18 and boom! Your shelter will be sheltering in no time.
03:21 Thanks, guys!
03:23 Hey, that's not for you.
03:25 Look, I know you want to stay in there, but that's for the homeless kitties.
03:29 Now come on, let's go get a snack.
03:31 As usual, post pictures to my Facebook, Twitter,
03:36 and if you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments below.
03:39 And thanks for helping out with the feral cats, everybody.
03:42 I'm sure they'll appreciate it.
03:44 Sedona, there's a pack of wild cats here to see you.
03:47 Already? Well, I guess I gotta go.
03:50 Hey, it's Mrs. Future Crazy Cat Lady Styles, thank you very much.
03:56 Bye!
