Cory was just messing around on his piano one day and decided to write a song and make a music video inspired by his 'mean kitty' Sparta. Little did he know, that video would be one of the most beloved cat videos of all time. Sparta and Loki have a huge internet following and this is where they are now.

Special Thanks: Cory Williams.

00:00Before YouTube I was just a guy that liked to make videos, home movies, until one day
00:09I made a video about my cat, which wasn't necessarily meant to be such a big deal.
00:13To be honest, I never thought I would actually be the guy with the cat.
00:27When I pressed that upload button and I watched it go public, I closed my eyes and I said
00:33please, please, please, please, please don't hate me.
00:36It was instantly number one most viewed, number one most favored on YouTube.
00:41It just kept going and going and going.
00:44I was just shocked.
00:47My mom called me and she said that she was standing in line at a grocery store and she
00:51heard someone's phone go off with a mean kitty song and she said she was so proud.
00:56Hi, my name is Corey Williams and my cats are Sparta and Loki.
01:03My relationship with Sparta and Loki, it's pure love.
01:07They're very interesting, very, very interesting.
01:12Sparta was actually found by one of my friends.
01:15They were living in this town and this little girl was going door to door trying to find
01:19these little kittens a home and he was the last of the litter.
01:22This little girl said if she can't get rid of this kitten that they're going to have
01:25to take it in to a shelter and chances are, you know.
01:29My friend says, hey, Corey, can you please take this little kitten off me?
01:33And I'm like, dude, seriously, I am not ready for a cat.
01:36But then he started playing with me.
01:38He started wrestling with me and he was just so full of love and he fell asleep on my lap
01:42and when my friend looked over and saw the cat sleeping on my lap, he's like, all right,
01:45dude, that cat is yours.
01:47So, yes, I took the cat home.
01:51I write a lot of music in my off time.
01:54Let's try this one.
01:56One day my cat just kept coming up and I was like, all right, fine.
01:59So I was petting him playing this song and he'd wrestle with me and I'm like, all right,
02:02cool, then I'm going to start writing this about you.
02:04And so I thought about all the little things that Sparta would do.
02:08Meat Kitty is a rap song from what is basically the stone age of internet content.
02:14These other social platforms that are here today, they weren't around.
02:17We didn't have Twitter.
02:18Facebook wasn't something that was really strong.
02:21A lot of these other sites just weren't as big and as powerful as YouTube.
02:25It's an adorable song.
02:26This guy wrote a song about his kitten that he'd just gotten.
02:29It doesn't hurt that the guy is kind of good looking and he's dancing all around his apartment
02:33with his mean cat.
02:38I don't consider myself a rapper by any means.
02:41I think the rapping is fun.
02:42It's catchy.
02:43When I first saw this video six years ago, I actually would get the Mean Kitty rap stuck in my head.
02:57I wonder if he finds this embarrassing now.
02:59I just do what I do because I think it's funny.
03:03It sort of follows another internet premise, which is that cats definitely are out to get us.
03:13He's a kitty and I feel like he has a bad rep.
03:17If I had the same reputation that I had when I was a child, nobody would want to hang out with me.
03:22If my cat pees on my bed if I move a chair, that is me.
03:30Spart is not actually Mean Kitty.
03:31In fact, he's one of the most loving cats I've ever had.
03:34He's like a baby.
03:39Yeah, that's just a stage name.
03:42You can stop me all you want, but I'm not your prey.
03:44You always seem to find me first, but not today.
03:46People, for some reason, I don't know why, they think Sparta has passed on.
03:51No, he is alive and well.
03:56It's sort of taken on this nostalgic quality now.
03:58That song is going to live on forever.
04:03Anything like that, like a rap song that can kind of hold up over time, you can still enjoy that years after.
04:08Right now I currently have 556,000 subscribers and the Mean Kitty song has 76 million hits.
04:19That video continues in popularity with still being six years old due to the relatability.
04:24People love cat videos because cats are innocent.
04:29Cats are just cats and they're goofy as they are.
04:31What also is really interesting about it is it's a man with his cat versus always just seeing the stereotypical crazy cat lady.
04:38You have this macho guy who is totally in love with his cat.
04:44It's catnip for women.
04:48It tells people that he's probably pretty sweet.
04:52These are my kids.
04:54As long as you continue giving them that love, they will give you that love back.
04:58My cats have changed my life.
05:02The closer that you get with them, the more interesting and funny things that they'll do around you.
05:07You can do just about anything.
05:11Every now and then I look back at the Mean Kitty song to read the comments
05:14because I still like to see that people are loving it.
05:17I never really expected any of this.
05:19I never expected to still be here today talking about something that happened seven years ago.
05:25I know how well it's doing for people and what it's going to do for cats.
05:30It's a good thing. It's just a good thing.
05:33I love it.
05:34Everything, every inch of the way.
