Chun-ying Leung refuses to resign after student protesters threaten to occupy government buildings

On Thursday, pro-democracy demonstrators surrounded the entrance to Hong Kong’s main government building and issued an ultimatum: Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying must resign before midnight or they would start occupying government buildings.

Minutes before the midnight deadline, Leung said in a press conference that he has no intention of stepping down. "I want to continue my task of ensuring the one-person one-vote election can take place in Hong Kong,” Leung said. Chief Executive Leung dispatched Carrie Lam, Hong Kong's top civil servant, to lead talks with the student group "as soon as possible.” Furthermore, Leung also warned of serious consequences if protesters were to storm government buildings.

Student protest leaders have agreed to take part in the meeting, but still insist on Leung’s resignation because according them he’s “lost his integrity.”
