A man from Gresham, Oregon was mugged at gunpoint while showing off his new weapon which he was wearing in accordance with the state’s open-carry law.
William Coleman III, 21, was robbed hours after legally purchasing a P22 Walther handgun.
According to police reports, Coleman was talking to his cousin late Saturday night near the corner of 172nd and Gilsan Street.
A man approached the two and asked for a cigarette. He noticed Coleman’s handgun, and reportedly said, “I like your gun. Give it to me,” before pulling out a gun of his own.
Coleman handed over his weapon, and the man fled on foot.
Coleman later described the man as a light-skinned black man, 6’1”, with a patch of hair on his chin. He appeared to be between 19 and 23 years old, and he was wearing grey sweatpants, a white t-shirt and flip flops at the time of the robbery.
