An American defence contract worker was shot dead and another was injured in a shooting at a gas station in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

The attack took place at around 2:45 p.m. as two Americans stopped their car at a gas station in the eastern part of Riyadh, the Saudi Gazette reported.

A man opened fire at their vehicle, killing one and injuring the other.

Police have detained the suspect and ruled out terrorism in the shooting, Arab News reported.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Abdulaziz Fahad Abdulaziz Alrashid, who worked at Vinnell Arabia, the same company as the victims.

He was recently dismissed from his job because of drug related issues, AFP reported.
