Attempted hammer murder: Security guard tries to bash in accountant’s head

Desperate times call for desperate measures. And a 68-year-old Taiwanese security guard who last year found himself in some apparently serious debt was desperate enough to steal maintenance funds from the building he worked in.
One of the building’s accountants eventually discovered the missing money and questioned the elderly man. The security guard knew it was only a matter of time before someone realized he’d been slipping money from the maintenance funds into his own pocket so he decided to buy himself some time by getting rid of the accountant.
One day, while the accountant was working, the security guard picked up a hammer and attacked her. Luckily, his attempt failed when the blow he hit her with failed to down her, and she fled into a nearby stairwell where one of the building’s tenants heard her screams and came to the rescue.
During an appearance in court, the security guard dropped to his knees and begged for clemency from the judge because of his advanced age. The victim also forgave him for almost killing her, so the old man escaped with just a 30-month jail sentence.
It seems kinda like a slap on the wrist for attempted murder.
