Police shoot dog over argument about picking up dog poop, caught on video

A three-hour standoff between Racine, Wisconsin police and a crazy dog owner ended with four gunshots and a very dead dog. The incident escalated from a neighborhood argument over a pile dog poop.

Kim Polk was outside when she spotted her neighbor allowing his Australian cattle dog to defecate on her front lawn.

“Are you going to pick that up,” Polk said to him, “because I don’t want that sitting on my grass.” The dog owner then threatened to kill Polk’s dog with a bow and arrow.

Polk’s husband then went to the neighbor’s house to confront the man, who threatened Polk’s husband with a machete.

When the SWAT team arrived at the man’s house, he threatened to shoot them with a crossbow and sicced his dog Angel on the police.

Video shot by a bystander shows the small dog run out of the house toward police. Four gunshots can be heard as the police fired at the dog.

Racine police said in a statement that they shot Angel because they were “forced to deal with the distraction and unpredictability of having the subject's dog moving through the scene of this active encounter at a critical time.”

Police arrested the suspect but did not release his name. The Justice 4 Angel Facebook community has been set up to gather petitions to protect dogs and call for the firing of the officer involved in Angel’s death.
