A Vietnamese passenger who tried to open an emergency door on a Vietnam Airlines aircraft midflight is set to stand trial in Australia. The name of the passenger has not been released.

Flight VN-773 was about an hour into its journey from Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney on Monday evening when the man began kicking and trying to open one of the emergency doors, according to media reports.

A group of passengers overpowered the man and tied him to a seat with cable ties.

One of the people who tied the man down was New Zealander Mark Ansley, who took pictures of the man.

According to Ansley, the man appeared agitated and claimed that he had been kidnapped and drugged, and that there were people in Sydney waiting to kill him.
