Last month in Guangzhou, a woman, identified by her surname Ding, bought a used computer as an educational tool for her four children, whose ages ranged from almost two to 11.
But it would be best to check the contents of the hard drive before handing it over to your children.
Ms. Ding spends many hours at work and was pleased that her children were so involved with their new present. It was a month later when she returned home and caught all four of her children crowded around the computer. She took a quick glance at the screen and was horrified to discover they were watching a porn!
Ms. Ding asked her father-in-law who spent most of his days with the children, what was going on.
His response was to shrug and say that he didn’t understand these new fangled technologies, but that the children had been watching the computer every day for the past month.
Ms. Ding immediately took the computer away and attempted to delete the offensive material, but was unable to.
In frustration she took it back to the original store and demanded to know what they thought they were peddling. The manager explained that since it was a used machine, it was possible that a former owner had loaded the videos onto the hard drive. The supposedly “kid friendly” computer had no Internet port or wireless capability so it was impossible that her children could have downloaded the videos by themselves.
Her kids certainly got an education, just not the one she was paying for.
