Human trafficking in China: police bust ring that ‘domesticated’ women by kidnapping and raping them
  • 9 years ago
Authorities in China’s poor eastern Anhui province have busted members of a human trafficking ring.

The police first uncovered the group in August and believe there may have been as many as eight victims, according to the group’s records.

The ring reportedly targeted healthy, single, unmarried, middle-aged women who lacked legal residency. After they had kidnapped the women they kept them in a windowless room inside an isolated house.

The human traffickers allegedly took turns raping and beating the women, in order to ‘domesticate’ them, until they found a buyer who ‘bought’ one for up to US$3,000.

One rescued victim said that after she was sold, her owner regularly drugged her because she continued to fight back each time he attempted to rape her. He would often beat her out of frustration as well.

The men have been arrested and charged with human trafficking, kidnapping, assault and rape.
