Australian sex workers get Australian stores to ban GTA V

The fifth installment of the Grand Theft Auto game franchise is drawing fire from former sex workers in Australia.

The ability to have graphic sex with prostitutes and beat and kill them right after zipping up has caused a backlash in Australia, prompting Target and KMart retail chains there to pull the title from shelves.

Okay, all kidding aside, sex workers are people too, and they are right in that this version of the game rewards the player for committing violent acts against women.

However, sales of the game are restricted to mature audiences, and studies have shown that the vast majority of gamers know the difference between pixels and real life.

Even still, the online petition currently has just under 45,000 supporters and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down soon.
