Decapitation strike: Tokyo man kills longtime lover in grisly murder

Last month, just three days shy of the New Year, Tokyo police received a 9-1-1 call from a man saying there had been a murder in the apartment he was calling from. He asked police to come over right away.

When police arrived, they asked the building supervisor to open the door where they were greeted by a 60 year old man.

In the bedroom the police found the nearly decapitated body of a 50-year old woman.

Police recovered a kitchen knife from the kitchen which they believe is the murder weapon. The knife had been washed, but they found residual blood from the victim in the handle.

The authorities suspect that the victim and the suspect had been living together for some time. Officers arrested the man and he is being held for further questioning.
