Adult video actress Mercedes Carrera recently solicited donations to fund scholarships for students considering careers in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and math) by a free erotic live stream earlier this month.

The project was created by the Porn Charity, a collaboration between Carrera and self-described feminist group Fine Young Capitalists.

Carrera and her group came up with the idea after pornographic site Pornhub attempted to make charitable donations for breast cancer research and was rejected.

Carrera, who worked as an aerospace engineer before she entered adult entertainment industry, believes that STEM degrees are difficult to obtain and launched the scholarship to encourage students considering careers in these fields.

Carrera and her group have raised over $11,000. Applications will open for students in Canada and the U.S. in February. Applicants will need to submit school transcripts and a short essay explaining their reasons for applying.
