Teen cuts off own hand: Chinese online gaming addict severs hand to ‘cure’ addiction

A teenager in China decided he had had enough and could no longer bear his addiction to Internet gaming and so severed one of his hands with a kitchen knife.

Did he visit a shrink, take meds, throw away his computer or take up yoga? Nope. He cut off his hand.

The unnamed 19-year-old from Jiangsu Province simply could not control his love of Internet gaming, so he decided to ‘cure’ himself by removing the appendage.

The teen left a note in his bedroom telling his parents not to worry and that he’d "be at the hospital for a while."

He then snuck out of the house, saw through his wrist and, presumably with his other hand, hailed a taxi and went to the emergency room.

Doctors were able to reattach the hand, but say he may not ever regain full mobility.
