Scam artist plan scores $16,000 from prostitute after threatening lawsuit and jail time

In Taichung, located in central Taiwan, a hooker got scammed out of USD $16,000.
A man--let’s call him John--and his two friends were running a scam artist ring in which John would pick up a high dollar prostitute and then his friends would barge into the room and pretend to catch him in the act.
The female friend--let’s call her Trixie--would pretend to be his wife and be outraged that John was cheating on her. The male friend--let’s call him Dick--would then snap photos of John and the call girl together as ‘evidence’ for the lawsuit Trixie was planning on bringing down against them both.
The two would then threaten to sue the prostitute for adultery--which is a felony in Taiwan--unless she agreed to buy them off.
When the four had finally settled on an amount they would accompany the prostitute to various ATMs until she had withdrawn the total amount of money, $16,000 bucks!
There was one more scene to be acted out, which was as John left the hotel his fake wife--Trixie’s “brother” would race up and punch him. Just to make it even more believable in all its glorious ridiculousness.
It wasn’t until later after some consideration that the prostitute decided to report the lot to the police for blackmail.
Police were able to track down the team of four because stupidly they’d used their real names.
Smart enough to come up with this complex scam but too stupid to change their names?
