Failed plane hijacking: United flight forced to land after ‘jihad’-shouting passenger rushes cockpit

The man who forced a United airlines plane to turn around shortly after take-off has no known connections to terrorists, a government official with knowledge of the incident told CNN.
Around 10:30 Monday night, a passenger on United Flight 1074 reportedly rushed the cockpit door, yelling “Jihad, jihad!”
At least one other flier tackled the man before he reached the cockpit door. Cell phone videos and photos show three passengers holding the man to the floor.
“I’m so sorry,” the man can be heard saying in one of the cell phone videos.
The flight was supposed to carry 33 passengers from Dulles International Airport to Denver International Airport, but the pilot turned around soon after taking off.
“We’re declaring an emergency due to a passenger disturbance,” the pilot said as he cleared the emergency landing. The plane returned to Dulles Airport at 10:40 p.m.
The man was not carrying any weapons, according to reports.
Authorities have not identified the man, but other passengers refer to him as “David” in the videos.
