Hatton Garden jewellery robbery: thieves empty 300 safety deposit boxes from London vault

Hundreds of safety deposit boxes were emptied from Hatton Garden Safe Deposit company in London's jewellery district over the Easter weekend in a dramatic heist.

The Hatton Garden thieves reportedly entered the company's premises through an elevator shaft in the building before using heavy cutting equipment to penetrate the vault, according to the Daily Mail.

The robbers were also able to disarm the security system, allowing them to cut through the vault over the Easter weekend undisturbed. An estimated 300 safety deposit boxes were emptied during the robbery, the Mail reported.

Scotland Yard and the Flying Squad are investigating the burglary at the scene, the Telegraph reported.
