Interviews from Caracas - The Summit of the Americas

Today our host Cody Weddle speaks with international analyst and professor at the Central University of Venezuela, Franklin Gonzalez about some of the geo-political novelties related to 7th Summit of the Americas scheduled for April 10-11 in Panama City. They first discuss who is invited to the Summit, the reason why Cuba has not been invited in the past, the recent hostility of the United States towards Venezuela, the role the United States has played in objecting to issues of great regional importance, and the role of Hugo Chavez in standing up to United States domination and successfully challenging the U.S.- backed Free Trade Area of the Americas among other projects. Professor Gonzalez regards the executive order of President Barack Obama declaring Venezuela an unusual and extraordinary national security threat as a reflection of the politics of war by an empire without borders that intervenes in other countries at the drop of a hat. The international analyst firmly believes that forging stronger unity between Latin American and Caribbean nations is the path to the future.
