6 Simple & Natural Ways to Relieve Stress
  • 11 years ago
You don't have to look far to see that we have a tendency to let negativity consume us. Here are 6 things I do to unwind, let go and be less wrapped up in the daily grind.

1. I eat dark chocolate in moderation (fyi, my favourite brand is called ZAZUBEAN, it is not featured in this video but is in the video titled "3 Quick "Skinny" Desserts"
2. I meditate, it doesn't matter who you are or what you believe in, anyone can relax and let go.
3. Meal time is special to me, it's where health begins and a time where I am in control of what happens to my body now and in the long run.
4. I like to tie up loose ends and start new tasks. Part of fulfillment is having a sense of purpose and a feeling accomplished. Simple things like tidying up our rooms can make a world of difference in how we feel about our lives and ourselves.
5. I love high intensity exercise, it is a challenge that makes me feel good. But when I'm stressed I just like to my exercise to be less goal-oriented. Exercise releases endorphins, refreshes the skin and helps us function more efficiently.
6. The best way, in my opinion, to de-stress is to live in the present. Make right by your mistakes, don't dwell, don't let negativity get the best of you. If the people around you are spreading negative energy for no apparent reason, just walk away because their burden of hatred is not your responsibility.

Additional Info and Video FAQ

Chocolate should be consumed in moderation, but can be beneficial (in my opinion). Milk chocolate and white chocolate are far from what nature came up with. Dark chocolate is better, check the percent of cocoa in the chocolate, I prefer 70%+. But I'll settle for the high 60s if it is vegan and the ingredients are good. Cacao nibs can be bought in large grocery stores and used for cooking, they are typically fermented to make chocolate as we know it (and get rid of tannins). Their flavour profile is still chocolatey but bitter, the sweetness is later added in the process of making chocolate. Cacao beans are actually part of a nut! Chocolate is also high in flavanols and vitamin C in when heat has not oxidized it!

My favourite brand of chocolate is called ZAZUBEAN. It is minimalistic chocolate with no emulsifiers.

The book I featured in the video is called The Monk and the Philosopher. In this book an atheistic philosopher (Ricard's father) and Matthieu Ricard (a follower of Buddhism) discuss the meaning of life. Regardless of your belief set, it is interesting to read about different perspectives and even more interesting to see people be civil about it, so give it a read if you're curious.
