Painting "St Augustine Is Presented The Book Of Lusts By Satan", ca.1471-75, by Michael Pacher. Painting public domain. One of the back stories of Pacher's painting: Satan goes to the home of St. Augustine, knocks on his door, and confronts Augustine with the fact that Augustine's name is written in the Devil's personal account ledger, pointing to his name so listed, also called the Book of Sins. In this book Satan has documented and catalogued every sin of every human who has ever lived. This is the Devil's proof document empowering him to accuse everyone in front of Jesus Christ on the day of Final Judgement and demand Jesus Christ, Lion of Judah and Son of The Most High God, hand over their souls to Satan to take legal ownership and possession of them and torment them for eternity in Hell fire according to "God's own Law". St. Augustine calmly raises his hand to rebuke Satan with the Sign of the Cross and remind the Devil he has no power over him, or his eternal soul, because all his past, present and future sins were, are and will be washed away in the Blood of The Lamb Jesus Christ. St. Augustine boldly proclaims The Word in Satan's face, that he was and is saved, and his purity is now "white as snow". Standing on the authority granted him as a child of King Jesus, by being grafted into the branch of Jesse, Augustine commands Satan to go away and leave him alone.
