TIM POPE – Tim Pope & Siouxsie i/v ('Omnibus Video Jukebox' , BBC1 , 09 May 1986)

John Peel and his Radio 1 producer, John Walters, hosted a special six and a half hours Omnibus Video Jukebox programme, documenting the history of music videos on BBC1 back on 9 May 1986, featuring the development of the rock video from the musicals and promotional shorts of the 1930s, until the first true videos in the 1970s and the 1980s. This video excerpt shows Tim Pope discussing his approach to making videos, plus some comments from Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie and the Banshees and closing with Tim Pope saying that meaningful looks in videos impose too much on a song. Trivia alert: a poster over Pope’s right shoulder with snapshots and photos from the shooting of Siouxsie and the Banshees 1985 hit single ‘Cities In Dust’ directed by who else? Not other but Tim Pope himself.
