Adnan Oktar: In Iran not even a man's right to change his sect is recognized. Such conduct causes Islamophobia.

- It is said that Iran has increased the oppression on Sunni citizens living in the country. It has been reported that in Karaj, a city north of Iran's capital, Tehran,  a Sunni named Marivan Abdul Karim Rıza who came to Iran from Iraq to work has been arrested by the Iranian court on charges of "enmity against God" on the grounds that he is a Sunni.

- We have a photo of him.

ADNAN OKTAR: Let me see. So he became a Sunni even though he was (born) a Shia, right?

- Yes.

ADNAN OKTAR: They consider this as him having changed his religion and they arrest him. Normally they would hang him, but they must have been ashamed to do so. And then they say, 'There is Islamophobia': Well my brother, that is bound to happen if this is case. Look, this is how the bigoted, traditional, Orthodox understanding of Islam is. They cannot even tolerate a person's changing his sect. What's that to you? He can be a Sunni or he can be a Shia. What's that to you? They consider him an unbeliever if he becomes a Shia when he is a Sunni; they consider him an unbeliever too, if he becomes a Sunni when he is a Shia. They consider him an unbeliever if he cuts his beard. They consider him an unbeliever if he doesn't fast, and the punishment for that is death. And after all that, they are saying, 'There is Islamophobia'. Well of course; people would be afraid of that.
