Mexico mayor and wife arrested in case of missing students

Mexican police say they have arrested the fugitive mayor of Iguala and his wife, wanted in connection with the disappearance of 43 student teachers.

The couple went on the run the day after the students disappeared on September 26 following protests in the town, and a warrant was issued for their arrest.

Jose Luis Abarca and his wife Maria de los Angeles Pineda were the most wanted couple in Mexico.

Iguala police said they had been told to stop the students from interrupting a speech by Ms Pineda.

Forensic teams are still working to identify bodies found in mass graves near to the last known location of the students.

Officials hope the couple can shed light on their whereabouts.
