The search is on for a hero who risked his life by going into a burning building and rescuing a sick man.

The unidentified man, who was wearing a LA Dodgers cap, was filmed entering the flaming house in Fresno, California, and emerging with 73-year-old Robert Wells on his shoulder.

A fire had broken out at the pensioner’s home on Saturday and his daughter Roberta Denise had been unable to get him out.

She said: ‘Number one my grandson, getting him out alive was the number one thing that I had to deal with. The second one, of course, was getting my father out.’

Mr Wells, who uses an oxygen tank, spoke to ABC30 after recovering from the incident.

He added: ‘I wasn’t going fast enough, so a guy picked me up and carried me out there. He was kind of in a half a run.’

Emergency crews managed to get the fire under control within half an hour of arriving.

The clip was captured on a smartphone by Beth Lederach.
