Rom-com king Hugh Grant is back

English movie star Hugh Grant is back with a new romantic comedy ‘The Rewrite’.

The ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ actor was joined by ex-girlfriend Liz Hurley who attended the film’s European premiere in London to show her support.

Fans lined the red carpet outside the cinema in central London to catch a glimpse of the star, who has been on a break from the entertainment business.

‘The Rewrite’ is Hugh Grant’s fourth collaboration with writer-director Marc Lawrence. He plays washed-up Hollywood screenwriter Keith Michaels, who is forced to take a job teaching at a small-town university to make ends meet. With this movie, Grant return to the traditional romantic-comedy fare.

“I’ve been a bit out of touch myself, not really having been in showbusiness a lot for sort of three or four years. And they do tell me that studios won’t make romantic comedy anymore. In fact, they won’t make films where people just talk to each other, people have to blow up,” the actor joked.

Grant’s character initially sees his new position as a way to avoid doing any work and meet attractive young girls. But he ends up learning as much from his students as they do from him, and meets single mother Holly, played by Marisa Tomei, who is determined to prove to him that people can get a second chance at life.

As rom-coms go, ‘The Rewrite’ delivers according to critics, who say “Hugh Grant is back doing what (he) does best” in this “light, frothy and utterly forgettable” film.

‘The Rewrite’ is on global release from now.
