Three people, including atleast one child, have reportedly been killed in the Netherlands after a monster truck accidentally drove into a group of spectators.

More than a dozen other people were also injured when the truck driver lost control at the annual event in the eastern part of the country, near the border with Germany.

On-lookers taking video captured the tragic event that occurred right after the modified pickup truck with oversized tires drove over a row of six cars.

The footage, which has been posted on social media websites shows the truck driving directly towards the crowd after performing the stunt.

Although the spectators were behind a metal fence, it didn’t protect them from the oncoming vehicle, and the footage shows some people were able to avoid being hit, while others were trapped.

Organizers say that they had a permit for the event, and they think that either the brake or gas pedal malfunctioned, causing the accident.

People who suffered injuries were airlifted on helicopters to nearby hospitals.

Authorities told local media sources that the driver of the truck has been detained for questioning, and the investigation into what happened is ongoing.
