WHO: Ebola crisis "unparalleled in modern times"

Addressing the Ebola outbreak in west Africa, World Health Organization officials didn't mince words.

SOUNDBITE: World Health Organization Assistant Director General Bruce Aylward saying:

"Quite frankly, ladies and gentlemen, this health crisis we face is unparalleled in modern times."

Assistant Director General Bruce Aylward says Ebola is spreading at an exponential rate.

"With 5,000 now infected, twice the number when we met a couple of weeks ago, over 2,500 dead, nearly twice the number of when we met a couple of weeks ago, you start to get a sense of the rapid escalation now we're seeing of the virus."

It's not just the number impacted that has gone up, so has the cost for containing the virus.
