Beyond the hill-station town of Ranikhet and even beyond the town of Someshwar lies the hill-top forested estate of Jariyakhali. In the distance, one can see the chalk mines of Kumaon and far below, the river valley of the Saryu. In front are the peaks of Panchchuli, Trishul, Nanda Devi and other peaks of the Kumaon range.
According to the company Kumaon Talc:
"Talc deposits result from the transformation of existing rocks under the effect of hydro-thermal fluids carrying one or several of the components needed to form the mineral (MgO, SiO2, CO2). Tectonics plays a major role in the genesis of a talc deposit. It enables hydro-thermal fluids to penetrate the rock, creating a micro-permeability that facilitates reactions in the mass. The size and shape of talc deposits depend upon the intensity of the hydrothermal activity which corresponds to the climate of a low temperature metamorphism. Pressure and deformations, both concurrent with and subsequent to this transformation, determine the crystallinity of the talc ore in the deposit.

Ranikhet is a hill station and cantonment town in Almora district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is home for the Military Hospital, Kumaon Regiment (KRC) & Naga Regiment and is maintained by the Indian Army.
Ranikhet is at an altitude of 1869 metres above sea level and within sight of the western peaks of the Himalaya. Ranikhet, which means Queen's meadow in Hindi, gets its name from a local legend, which states that it was here that Raja Sudhardev won the heart of his queen, Rani Padmini, who subsequently chose the area for her residence, giving it the name Ranikhet, though no palace exists in the area.
