Sindoor Ritual:

The next day of Navratri is known as Mahadashmi, this day Goddess Durga departs with her four children - Laxmi, Sarswati, Kartik and Ganesha. The day formally starts with the special puja, yajna and Maha Arti. Then the most interesting part of this day is enacted known as Sindur Khela. Its a complete Ladies funtion and that too only married ladies. No widow and unmarried women are allowed to participate in this.

This is performed infront of Goddess Durga before she departs. Here the Bengali women folk wearing traditional dresses offer vermilion (sindur) at the feet of Maa Durga and pray with betel leaf, sweets and smearing each other with sindur to bid farewell to the Goddess.
