NYPD Patrol Car Parks Under Basketball Hoop For Symbolic Slam Dunk

Police in New York recently joined forces with local basketball players for a symbolic slam dunk.
Police in New York recently joined forces with local basketball players for a symbolic slam dunk. On Friday, a large crowd gathered at a park in Staten Island. They were all there to watch an annual basketball tournament put on by the 'Under the Lights' basketball league.
However not too many spectators expected to see a patrol car show up. At first, the majority of people thought the police were there to put a stop to the game.
That wasn’t the case at all. One of the founders of the 'Under the Lights' basketball league, Joel Soto, spoke to law enforcement prior to the event.
He asked if they would like to play a role in the slam dunk competition by letting a basketball player dunk over a cop car. The officers told Soto they'd love to do it and once they had an OK from their commanding officer, they headed to the event.
Player Brian Hogan-Gary, ripped off his jersey, set up for the shot and jumped over the cop car for the successful dunk. The police then turned on their lights and sirens, showing they were in on the stunt.
Soto remarked “It definitely brought down a little of the tension between police and the community.”
