Many traditional festivals are held throughout the country at this time of the year to pray for people’s good health.
In Oyama City, locals marched through the town, carrying 24 portable shrines. The biggest one weighs two tons. Children also participated in the parade. One group wore traditional samurai costumes.

At another local festival in Saitama prefecture, participants from across 8 towns carried their own portable shrines. A giant traditional float on wheels was also towed through the streets, accompanied by the sound of flutes and drums.
