Three human skulls were recently donated to a thrift store in Bellevue, Washington. No one is sure who dropped off the remains, so The King County Medical Examiner’s Office is now asking the public for tips.

Two of the skulls are from adults and both of them appeared to have been used in medical testing or research. The remaining third skull is thought to be from a 5 or 6-year-old Native American.

Forensic anthropologist Kathy Taylor estimates the child’s skull is about 100 years old.Keith Seinfeld with Public Health – Seattle and King County elaborated on that discovery stating “The size of the skull indicated it was a juvenile and the shape of the skull was formed in a way that showed it had been formed by a cradle board, used in Native American customs.”

All three skulls have been handed over to the Medical Examiner’s Office. The Native American skull is the most troubling though, as State Law mandates it be given to its tribe of origin.

Additional information is needed to determine which tribe the skull belongs to. Anyone who has information about the donor is asked to contact the Medical Examiner’s Office right away.
