Wakefield "The Lost Warthog Tapes" 1970-71 US Heavy Acid Jam Brass Rock
Originally recorded in 1970-71, but remained unissued.

First ever vinyl release of 1970-71 recordings by this band from Colorado. A blend of hard-rock, psychedelia, and acid-rock with powerful jamming sound, long tracks, stunning lead guitar, organ, latin percussion, dreamy / bluesy vocals...Fans of Leslie's Motel don't miss this one!

From Pueblo, Colorado this early 70s style rock band formed in 1969 and continued to play all over the Pacific Northwest, Colorado, and the Midwest until their break up in 1974. The band recorded a concept album for Warthog Studios in Denver between 1970 and 71 that had been stored away for some 30 years until now! Shelter Records had expressed interest in signing the band, but somehow the deal slipped between the cracks and the sessions remained unissued. The Lost Warthog Tapes certainly suggests that it wasn't due to lack of talent; superb wah wah fuzz guitar, dreamy Moody Blues harmonies, and a tasteful use of woodwinds/horns make this a real lost classic! The band's sound existed somewhere between psychedelia (numerous outstanding guitar and organ solos), acid rock, hard rock, and soul-rock, best-exemplified on the pair of opening tracks, Bring It On, with its impressive Chicago-style horn arrangements, jazzy saxophone solo, and Latin percussive touches, and the edgy Something Is Coming, an explosion of harmony. Almost 80 minutes long, there are also some tremendously imaginative stretches on the album and even entire songs that are worth the time it takes to listen, not often the case with "lost" recordings from completely obscure and unknown entities. Even if Wakefield doesn’t always manage to bring its ideas to a full bloom, The Lost Warthog Tapes makes for a great ride that has enough excellent moments to make it worth the trip.
