Greenpeace protests against open mining in Poland

Greenpeace activists have staged a protest against planned open coal mines being built in several areas in northwest and southwest Poland.

They claim some 30,000 people will lose their homes and local environments will be devastated. They also urge that alternative sources of energy should be pursued.

On August 23 a big protest is planned on the border with Poland and Germany when an 8 km human chain will be formed to link up some of the affected area.
