Schwedt and Eisenhüttenstadt were once major centers of heavy industry in East Germany, producing oil and steel. After the collapse of communism, they went into decline. Whereas Eisenhüttenstadt managed to recover, however, Schwedt has not.

Are these towns typical of overall development in the former East Germany? How so local residents there view progress? And what role does politics play, 25 years on?
