The French city of Strasbourg is the official seat of the European Parliament and also the capital of the Alsace region. Other EU work goes on in Brussels and Luxemburg, but parliament has twelve sessions a year in Strasbourg. The "Grande-Île" - or big island - has so many important and well-preserved historical buildings that the entire old city is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
