Second Zetas drug boss killed in Mexican gun fight

One of the founders of the brutal Zetas drug cartel in Mexico is said to have been killed in a gun fight with security forces.

Galdino Mellado Cruz – aka – “Z-9” is thought to have been among five gunmen to die on Friday. A soldier was also killed.

Analysts say the Zetas currently control more territory than any other criminal gang in Mexico.

They are infamous for their extremely violent methods, routinely decapitating rivals and hanging their bodies from bridges.

Mellado was one of the 30 ex-special forces soldiers who created the Zetas gang to serve as enforcers for the Gulf Cartel before splitting off in a bloody break-up with its former ally.

Mellado operated in the area of Reynosa, just across the border from Texas.
