Hi and welcome to Learn to Dance Salsa in your Living Room We’re going to take you by the hand and lead you through your first basic steps of this exciting, vibrant dance known as Salsa. We will give you the basic fundamentals to have you salsa dancing in no time. Take your time when you are learning the steps. Once you have mastered the skills, you’ve got them for the rest of your life. We explain the steps with both the Leaders and the Followers.
Before we get started, let me give your first dance tip. It’s on timing. Count along with us as we teach you the steps. So, let’s get started. Salsa is danced on 8 beats. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7. You may have noticed that I’ve actually left out the 4th and 8th beat. That is because they are pauses. This will make a lot more sense to you as you continue to learn the basic steps. Okay, before we take our first step in Salsa, I’m going to talk about Posture. Posture is very important when you are dancing Salsa. The key things to remember here are to keep your head up, shoulders back, your hands above your waist and your feet slightly apart.
The first step we are going to teach you is called the Mambo Break or simply Forward and Back.
