Hello everyone, as you all know, writing is an important part of English. As such, whether it's for a test or just to send an e-mail to a friend, proper writing is important.

In this class, Justin will give a few tips to help improve your writing. They range from very simple to complex, but if you apply these tips, you will be sure to notice a difference!

TOEFL & IELTS - 5 Tips to Improve your Writing
Hello everyone, this lesson will not focus on teaching you tricks to get a better score on the TOEFL writing (I have another video that shows how to answer the TOEFL writing), but it will show you how to improve your writing OVERALL. And if your writing is better overall, your score should improve as well, don't you think?
Now, some of the tips I show here apply even to us, native speakers, as these tips focus on bad practice we also have. But here is how to fix all that and improve:
1. Echoes: Echoes are words or expressions that a writer repeats over and over. We all do it a little bit, the important thing is to reduce it as much as possible. Pay attention to vary your choice of words.
2. Companies & organisations are "it": Very often, we refer to companies & organisations as "them", but they are in fact "it". For example, you should say: "Microsoft said it will fix the problem" instead of "Microsoft said they will fix the problem".
3. Active vs passive: Active verbs in English are always better than passive (though active sentences are not always possible). Active verbs mean the subject does the action, as opposed to passive, where the subject is the recipient of the action. Example: "X pushed Y" is active and "Y was pushed by X" is passive.
4. Strong words: This is the most difficult tip to realize properly and except top-notch authors, no one really masters it properly. Still, it's no reason to abandon it. Strong words replace series of inadequate words. For example, instead of saying "very hard" you can say "difficult". or instead of saying "very good at something", you can say "expert at something".
5. Read!: It's not a very complicated tip, but it's amazing how many students wish to improve their writing but neglect reading. By reading, you will see great vocabulary and great sentence structure and just by reading them, you will learn these naturally
