At least nine circus performers are seriously injured after a platform used during their show collapsed on Sunday (May 4), the Providence Fire Department said.

Amateur video shot by an audience member showed performers spinning on ropes tethered to the platform when the structure collapsed with no warning.

Nine of the performers were critically injured but are expected to survive, fire officials said.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
