Unlikely as it sounds, a Gatorade bottle may very well have helped one man survive a shooting. The male had been walking in Northeast Philadelphia at about 5:30 in the morning when he was approached by two armed men who demanded money.

A Philly man survived a recent shooting, and has a bullet hole in a plastic bottle to show for it.

The male had been walking in Northeast Philadelphia at about 5:30 in the morning when he was approached by two armed men. The suspects allegedly demanded money and when the victim informed them he didn’t have any, he was shot.

The 33-year-old received a bullet to the upper thigh, and just by chance, that’s where he had stored a Gatorade bottle in his pocket. Police didn’t say for sure if the beverage container had deflected or lessened the impact of the bullet.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where his condition is listed as stable.
Law enforcement did not release a description of the suspects or if any persons of interest had even been identified.

In a similar report from last year, a man in Washington D.C., Brian Harris had been sitting on his front porch when he heard several shots pierce the air. He soon realized the bullet slightly penetrated his wallet's cover and broke the glass on Harris' smartphone and that's where it finally stopped -- a mere millimeters from his body.
