Google Glass App Helps Mothers Breastfeed
The Australian Breastfeeding Association has created an app for Google Glass that connects nursing mothers with helpful tips, videos, and live video chats.
The Australian Breastfeeding Association and Melbourne based tech company, Small World Social, are developing an app for Google Glass that connects the mother with helpful tips, videos, and live video chats to help them with their breastfeeding issues.
As the technology allows hands free operation and two-way viewing, the association considered it ideal for a variety of assistance method.
One service is access to a library of online videos on a variety of breastfeeding topics.
Mothers can hold their babies while navigating through the collection of tutorials and accessing the information portal.
Live consultations with healthcare professionals will also be available. Given that the advisor can see what the mother is or isn’t doing while nursing, targeted advice can be dispensed.
If needed, further suggestions can be offered based on what the health provider sees, not just what the mother tells him or her.
It’s also been noted that the technology and the application can greatly benefit new mothers who live in remote areas and without convenient access to medical facilities and personnel.
The trial included 5 mothers and 15 counselors who worked through several bugs and issues, including sufficient battery power for live consultations. The app’s release date has not yet been announced.
