The Ocoee City Hall in Florida isn’t doing too great these days. The building, which was built 2 decades ago for about $2.2 million is now sinking into the muddy ground.

The Public Works Director estimates the City Hall needs about $1 million of work in order for it to be structurally sound . The front porch that overlooks Starke Lake has separated from the building by about four inches.

The waterfront portion, which holds the Mayor’s office is sitting about 3 inches in the muck. Anyone who walks through the doors of the front entrance will notice a big slope.

The price for just bracing the porch as a temporary fix is estimated to be about 35 grand. The problem is the original building site.

A consequence of the picturesque location is that the grounds are exceptionally soft. Meetings have been scheduled to address the issue.

Suggestions include moving City Hall to a different location, or making the costly repairs and hoping the building won’t settle anymore, an option one Commissioner is concerned may just be “putting a Band-Aid on something that's going to be a money pit,"

74-year-old Mayor S. Scott Vandergrift comically threw out his own proposal stating “Maybe included in the estimate are water wings for me. Of course, some people might say, 'Let it go. It's just the mayor's office.’”
