Krispy Kreme insanity in Taiwan: 4 hour line for a donut!

Krispy Kreme donuts have become quite the phenomenon in Taiwan, with many lines stretching for hours, after the donut giant opened the nation's very first cafe in Taipei earlier this month.

An American expatriate living in Taiwan who came up with an apparent explanation for the public reaction to the donut giant's new store, posted a video with his thoughts on YouTube. Pointing out how pedestrian the chain's fried dough confectionery generally are, he explains the multiple hour-long waiting times by noting the lemming-like culture in Taiwan, in which everyone jumps on the next big thing, irrespective of its quality.

The video has stirred widespread debate among Taiwanese netizens, many of whom have railed against the expatriate's theory, pointing out that expressing curiosity for new and novel products is just part of human nature and citing the reaction each new iPhone release elicits in the US as a case in point.
