Thousands of years ago on the planet Mobius, which should be noted is a world inhabited by humans and also walking, talking humanoid animals, a tribe of echidnas used gems of unlimited power called Chaos Emeralds including one Master Emerald. The Master Emerald was guarded by a giant water monster called appropriately enough "Chaos". An echidna tribe attempted to use the chaos emeralds for personal gain and was wiped out by Chaos' wrath which flooded the planet, essentially creating Mobius' first bible story.
Fast forward a millennia or so: above the planet Mobius in a giant space station a human doctor named Gerald Robotnik was dedicated to defending the world from an evil alien. From this alien's DNA , the doctor created another talking animal named Shadow the Hedgehog and no one thought that was weird. After his fatally ill granddaughter was killed by the military, Gerald went insane and tried to run his station into the Earth, which inspired his grandson Ivo Robotnik (known by casual friends as Eggman) to take up a doctorate and try and rule the world.
Ivo gets really into turning animals into robots, which understandably forces the half-animal, half people of Mobius to band together into a unit of Freedom Fighters led by Sonic The Hedgehog, Sally Acorn, and Miles "Tails" Prower, a fox who can fly with his butt. Again, no one thinks this is weird.
Sonic thwarts Robotnik across the years and multiple adventures: traveling through time, becoming attitude rivals with Knuckles the Echidna, competing in a foot-race, becoming a werewolf, a knight, an Olympic Games contender. Look, Robotnik keeps trying to take over the world. Just keep this off DeviantArt, guys. Have fun.
